Royal Caribbean has big refurbishment plans in the future for some of their smaller cruise ships. They are really upping their game in the amenities area to compete with all the new mega ships.
One of Royal Caribbean’s ships Mariner of the Seas which holds 3,114 passengers is undergoing a $90 million refurbishment this month (you may call it a complete over haul). There will be many new features added from food venues to fun attractions for the young and old including a waterpark. She is currently at a shipyard in Cadiz, Spain where all the work is taking place before repositioning to Miami in June to sail 3 and 4 night itineraries to the Bahamas with stops in Nassau and Coco Cay which is Royal Caribbean private island.
Now let’s talk about the new attractions that will be added to this midsize ship. For the kid in all of us, let’s start with some of the fun areas that will be added. A glow in the dark laser tag experience called Planet Z that will take place in Studio B, the ice skating rink.
A new escape room experience will be added called Puzzle Break: The Observatorium. This is where guests can team up to find hidden clues and figure out codes in the attempt to rescue a time traveling scientist.
There will be a flow rider surf simulator, along with perfect storm water slides (dual high speed racer slides) to complete the fun filled water park. The slides will spiral around the ship near the flow rider and rock climbing wall.
A brand new bungee trampoline experience called Sky Pad that will launch guests sky high for a gravity defying experience with the option of virtual reality headsets. You will be transported to another time and planet to bounce over the moon craters or compete in intergalactic games. This is an out of this world experience for guests of all ages. You can also experience this without the headsets if you prefer to look over the ocean when leaping towards the sky.
Now let’s talk food…..Some of the new food and beverage venues planned are a new Italian restaurant by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver which already exists on some of the other Royal ships. The new tiki bar, named the Bamboo Room. It is a new concept for Royal Caribbean that will only be found on Mariner of the Seas for now. It will have a Polynesian theme and serve hand crafted cocktails. For those Royal fans that are familiar with Japanese eatery Izumi Hibachi and Sushi, it will be added as well.
A new sports bar and arcade, and Starbucks will complete the new additions to this vessel. Mariner of the Seas first voyage post dry dock will be on June 25, 2018.
