PORT CANAVERAL ~ NEW PORT & NEW SHIP 2020

Carnival Cruise Line and Canaveral Port Authority have agreed upon construction for a new terminal and it will be able to accommodate Carnival’s new 180,000 ton ship set to debut in 2020. The new cruise terminal 3 will be built on the south side of the port, west of Jetty Park.

Carnival Cruise Line plans on making Port Canaveral homeport to the new 5,200+ passenger mega ship. This ship will be the first in a whole new class of ships which is being called the XL class at this time. It is also the first North American based cruise ship to be powered by Liquefield natural gas. Construction is planned to start November 2018 with a steel cutting ceremony at the Meyer-Werft shipyard in Turku Finland.

Christine Duffy of Carnival Cruise Line stated “We are very pleased about prospects of homeporting our largest ship at Port Canaveral, a valued business partner for more than 25 years. Carnival Cruise Line is easily accessible from all over the southeast with excellent facilities and friendly staff. Port Canaveral is one of our most popular and fastest growing homeports. This fantastic new ship, coupled with our future plans for Port Canaveral will provide guests with an unparalleled seagoing vacation experience from the minute they arrive”.
